Dr. Tom Smiley is an arboricultural researcher at The Bartlett Tree Research Laboratory in Charlotte, North Carolina and an adjunct professor of Urban Forestry at Clemson University. Tom received his Ph.D. in Urban Forestry from Michigan State University, and a Masters of Science in Plant Pathology from Colorado State University. Tom serves as a technical advisor to the American National Standards Institute A300 Committee in the preparation of the Standards for Tree Care Operations and is chair of the International Society of Arboriculture’s (ISA) Best Management Practices Committee, which interprets the standards. He also chairs the ISA’s Board Certified Master Arborist Committee and received the International Society of Arboriculture’s Research Award in 2005.
